During the latter half of 2015, the Integrated Support Center for Nuclear Nonproliferation and Nuclear Security (ISCN) of the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA), Japan,1 conducted, on behalf of the APSN, surveys on training needs and providers in the Asia-Pacific region.

The 8th Asia Pacific Safeguards Network (APSN) Annual Meeting and accompanying Working Group sessions took place October 30 - November 2, 2017 in Busan, the Republic of Korea. 

On September 18-22, DOE/NNSA Nuclear Safeguards Engagement Program (INSEP), with participation from the Indonesian Nuclear Regulatory Authority, BAPETEN, conducted a training course for the Vietnam Agency on Radiation and Nuclear Safety (VARANS) on the Conduct of National Inspections.

This paper considers historical, legal and technical bases for including “control” of nuclear material as part of a State’s system of accounting for and control of nuclear material (SSAC) and its role in the fulfillment of safeguards obligations.

Each non-nuclear-weapon State party to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty is required to conclude a comprehensive safeguards agreement (CSA) with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The Australian Safeguards and Non-proliferation Office (ASNO) hosted an IAEA Regional Training Course on Safeguards and Nuclear Security for Countries with Small Quantity Protocols December 12-16, 2016 in Melbourne, Australia for approximately 30 participants.

APSN Members attended the 60th IAEA General Conference

During the American Nuclear Society’s (ANS) Conference on Advances in Nuclear Nonproliferation Technology & Policy (ANNTPC), Jaime Vidaurre-Henry from the Japan Atomic Energy Agency presented Focusing NMA&C Training on the precise group of practitioners.

From September 5 – 8, 2016, the National Nuclear Security Administration/Department of Energy (NNSA/DOE) brought together twenty-six experts from countries across Southeast Asia for a ‘Regional Workshop on Safeguards’ in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. 

Rob Floyd, Director General of the Australian Safeguards and Nonproliferation Office (ASNO), Australia and former APSN Chair was one of the keynote speakers during the opening plenary of the 57th Annual Meeting of the Institute of Nuclear Materials Management (INMM).

The Integrated Support Center for Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Nuclear Security (ISCN) held the above seminar in the conference room of the Viet Nam Electricity Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Projects Management Board (EVNNPB) from January 26 to 28, 2016 in Ninh Thuan, Viet Nam, on which a new nuclear site is located.
