The Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA), with support from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will host the RTC on SSAC to be held on 21 October – 1 November 2019 in Tokai-mura, Ibaraki, Japan.
The training course will be conducted with the support and assistance provided by the Integrated Support Center for Nuclear Nonproliferation and Nuclear Security (ISCN) of the JAEA. The purpose of the course is to promote the peaceful uses of nuclear energy under the international nuclear non-proliferation regime. It will provide participants with a basic understanding of the nuclear non-proliferation regime and international safeguards and with practical knowledge and skills required to establish, operate and maintain a State System of Accounting for and Control of Nuclear Material (SSAC) that fulfills the State’s safeguards obligations. The course includes technical visits to nuclear facilities to complement the theoretical knowledge provided during classroom training. The visit to Hiroshima aims for participants’ awareness of the effects of nuclear weapons.
Additionally, following this RTC, the Joint Research Center (JRC) of the European Commission (EC) will provide selected RTC candidates with a Follow-up Course on Non-destructive Analysis (NDA) of Nuclear Materials to be held in January 2020.
