International Workshop on the Fundamentals of Domestic Safeguards Inspections

Domestic inspections play an important role in strengthening the national oversight of nuclear and radiological assets and also support implementation of international safeguards. By conducting domestic safeguards inspections, a State Authority can help meet national requirements and enable national stakeholders to prepare for International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspections and resolve safeguards issues in advance, thereby saving valuable time and resources.

This workshop, conducted in English, will examine the concept of domestic inspections, the infrastructure needed to establish an inspections program, and the support available from the IAEA, U.S. Department of Energy – National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA), and other APSN Member States. The workshop will also provide a unique opportunity to participate in a mock inspections exercise at Indonesia’s nuclear facilities at Serpong, a courtesy of the Indonesian government.
